According to SBI’s new policy, if you have an account in public money account, you do not have to keep the minimum balance. Even you can withdraw money from your account as many times as you like. According to the bank official, this rule will be applicable not only on public money accounts but also on Basic Savings Account.
Apart from this, there is no provision to keep minimum balance for staff, students and cellular account holders in this new rule. However, it is mandatory to hold the minimum balance of SBI’s normal account holders.
Earlier, in the month of April, SBI had said it necessary to keep the minimum balance for normal account holders under its new rules. According to a senior bank official, in the metro cities, the first normal saving account holders had to keep minimum of 5,000 rupees in their account at least, but now they have to keep only 3,000 (monthly). At the same time, account holders living in cities, small towns and villages will have to keep Rs. 3000, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 respectively in their account.
